Please Note
The road from the base camp up to the Golden Rock has to be done by special dedicated trucks. You are not allowed to drive up there with your own vehicle. These open trucks are equipped with narrow benches on the back.
During the raining season, the platform around the Pagoda can be slippery due to rain or mist.
It is advisable to carry a torch light as there are frequent power cuts.
You are advised to only carry a small bag or hand carry as your big luggage will stay in the car/bus at the base camp.
The Golden Rock Pagoda does regular gilding in a three year cycle. During this time, the rock will be covered in bamboo scaffolding. Prior notice is not given and exact schedule for the work are not really available.
Accommodation: The Mountain Top Hotel is located on the top of the mountain, whereas the Golden Rock Hotel is located near the upper camp (5 minutes' walk from the truck stop). More hotels are located near the base camp on in/near the village of Kyaiktiyo. Depending on where you stay, the program will need to be adjusted in terms of driving up and down the hill.
Sunsets and sunrises on the platform can only be seen if you stay at the Mountain Top Hotel.
A footpath goes up from the Golden Rock hotel to the top. The walk uphill takes around 45 minutes whereas downhill will take around 30 minutes. This path during the rainy season can be slippery.
To confirm your booking details, please send an e-mail at least 48 hours prior to departure. Please make sure you have a printed voucher with you and present it to our staff at the meeting point.
Once booked, refunds are not available due to reservation requirements.
Guide service will not be included for single traveler.
Pick up: Hotel pick-up may be as early as 1 hour prior to tour start time. Please be ready in your hotel lobby 10 minutes prior to the pick-up time provided. We will confirm you one day earlier a precise time by email.
Drop off: After the tour, our vehicle will drop off the passengers back to the hotel.

Full Itinerary


Meeting point at Golden Express Travel & Tours at 6:00am in the morning for the drive to BAGO (84 km - 1 & half hours). On arrival in Bago, visit the THAMANAY Buddhist Seminary where about 150 monks live and study located at the entrance of the city.
Sightseeing will continue to the thousand year old SHWEMAWDAW PAGODA with its spire taller than the SHWEDAGON PAGODA.
You will then leave Bago and proceed to the KIN PUN 'base camp' (110 km - 3 & half h).
The tour will continue to one of Myanmar's landmarks famous for its precarious position and religious importance. KYAIKTIYO, the 'Golden Rock', is a huge boulder completely covered in gold leaves and delicately balancing on the edge of a cliff.
To reach the pagoda from KIN PUN base camp, a steep 11 km road leads to the upper staging point.
Please, note that the journey is made in open trucks, which are very crowded and uncomfortable (be aware of this before you decide to join this tour).
The 'upper area' must be travelled on foot at present, and the walk is approximately 4 km (1 hour) up a steep path ascending some 500m to the GOLDEN ROCK on top of the mountain range. If you wish to take a more comfortable approach, you can sit back and be carried in sedan chairs by four porters. This will incur an extra cost of approx. US$ 15.00 p.p. per way (price depends on availability and guest body weight and is to be paid directly on the spot). On arrival, you can enjoy great views over the surrounding hills and jungle and see a beautiful sunset.

We suggest waking up early for to enjoy beautiful sunrise views and a quiet morning stroll from summit.
Return back to hotel for breakfast will be served at the hotel.
And descending back to the Kinpun base camp. And heading to MAWLAMYAING 5 hours drive will take you past the picturesque town of Thaton, former capital of the Mon Kingdom to MOTAMA. By local ferry boat you will reach the post-colonial city MAWLAMYINE. In Mawlamyine sightseeing by trishaws and coach, see the local market, tour along the Strand Road, Baptist church, historical sights and late afternoon enjoy the sunset from KYAIKTHANLAN PAGODA, known as the Kipling Pagoda.

Breakfast will be served at hotel.
Visit to the bustling and busy Zyegyi Market of the city. Walk through downtown streets stopping to visit the historic and old colonial era building, mosque and other landmarks of the city.
Visit Judson Church (The first Baptist Church built in 1827 by Dr. A Judson who translated the Bible into Burmese.)
And then proceed to Holy Family Cathedral which built during the colonial era, has a beautiful interior rarely seen by tourists.
Drive to Kawhnat-Kadoe, village of U Nar Ouk (who was during the colonial times, ran a local ferry boat company and fell into competition with the famed Ayeyarwaddy Flotila group. A price-war ensued, resulting in free ferry travel for all locals.)
Visit to the Kawnat monastery, magnificent with beautiful woodcarving was built a century ago by a villager named U Nar Ouat, who was famed in those days for his wealth and generosity. It was because of his donation that this religious site was build nearby his village.
In the evening time is your relaxation or leisure on the strand road.

Breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a scenic drive heading for the less explored Kayin State and its sleepy capital of Hpa An, the capital of Kayin State, surrounded by limestone cliffs, wide lakes and mountain ranges. During the journey, you'll stop at the Buddha-filled cave of Kha Yon and visit to Lumbini Garden with thousands of Buddha images at the base of Mt. Zwekabin. A brief photo-stop at Kyauk Kalat, a pagoda which is built on layers of natural rock formations.After that we visit to the shallow Kaw-goon and Pha-gat Cave Pagodas, an invaluable cultural heritage questionably dating back to 7-AD and End the day with a short visit to Shwe-Yin-Myaw pagoda where you enjoy an overlooking view of sunset the famous Thanlwin River at sunset.
Overnight at Hotel Zwekabin (***, Deluxe room) or Hotel Gabana (***, Deluxe room) or Hotel Angel Land or similar in Hpa An.


After breakfast, drive to Yangon (305 km - 8 hours). Stop en route for a visit at the interesting Ba-yin-yi caves with beautiful wall carvings and numerous intricate Buddha images sculpted in allsizes. Arrive in Yangon in the late evening.
