  • Full Itinerary

In the early morning, you get picked up at your hotel in Mandalay to drive to Monywa.

Here you visit the Thanboddhay and Bodhi Tahtaung Pagodas. The Thanboddhay pagoda is very different from other sacred buildings that you have visited during your trip, as it is surrounded by a wall and its entrance is adorned by giant elephants. The impressive highlight is the about 43 m high pagoda itself, which is covered by turrets.

The pagoda of the 1,000 bodhi trees, Bodhi Tahtaung, is located in front of a grove of bodhi trees. The interior of both statues can be visited. Its construction was funded by Buddhists from around the world and each of the donor countries presents itself in the form of an exhibition of images, each on one of the 32 floors.

Phowintaung is across Monywa on the other side of the Chindwin River. Although there is a lot to discover, only a few foreign tourists come here. Hundreds of thousands of Buddha statues are said to decorate the sandstone caves of Phowintaung and a variety can be discovered during a visit.
